History

International Spices began as a home-based business outside of Omaha, Nebraska, in 1982. After a short period in a small facility in Elkhorn, we moved to our current location in Fremont.

In December of 2003, Reynold Hochstein purchased International Spices. One year later his son, Eric, became a partner. Under this new ownership and management, the company has grown exponentially. Major investments in automation, equipment and technology have allowed us to grow capacity & increase efficiency while maintaining operating costs.

A complete overhaul and consolidation of our technology infrastructure was finished in 2006. In February of 2008, our first major office and production expansion was completed, effectively doubling square footage to allow for our continued growth. This project also included the installation of our full-service research and development kitchen.

Our most recent expansion project was completed in October 2009, bringing our total capacity to roughly 45,000 air-conditioned and humidity-controlled square feet. This expansion has allowed us to reorganize warehouse and production workflows to serve you even more efficiently.

And finally, our online store went live in April 2009.

The voyages of Christopher Columbus were funded largely by Spain in hopes of gaining an advantage in the lucrative spice trade of the period.
